The Team

Over the last 8 years, FJJ has assembled a fantastic team of instructors, all of whom have trained with us for years and bring a great array of unique martial arts experiences to the mix. All Senseis are certified in Standard First Aid. Plus, they’re just a lot of fun to work with.

SENSEI DARREN
5th Degree Black Belt

Sensei Darren, a public schoolteacher for 26 years, has over 35 years of martial arts experience, including 12 years of Japanese Jiu Jitsu, 17 years coaching NCCP-certified Wrestling, 3 years of Kung Fu (Tiger/Dragon Styles), 3 years of kickboxing, and a background in human kinetics. Sensei Darren's favourite saying? "Maximum damage, minimum effort!"

SENSEI LUKE
4th Degree Black Belt

Sensei Luke is a Fourth-Degree Black Belt in the Can-Ryu system of Japanese Jiu Jitsu. Sensei Luke has trained for 13 years in Japanese Jiu Jitsu, and has 6 years of Wrestling under his belt. Sensei Luke's favourite parts of Jiu Jitsu? Dojo Runs and the aptly-named "Jiu-Fitsu!" His favourite Martial Arts show? Marvel’s Daredevil!

SENSEI ZACK
3rd Degree Black Belt

Sensei Zack is a Third-Degree Black Belt in the Can-Ryu system of Japanese Jiu Jitsu. Sensei Zack has trained for 10 years in Japanese Jiu Jitsu, and wrestled for 3 years. Sensei Zack's favourite class? Monday night Combat Class! His favourite martial arts movie? The Raid!

Sensei Zack can often be seen giving finger guns towards cameras.

Sensei Jen, a public schoolteacher for 27 years, has over 10 years of martial arts experience, including 8 years of Japanese Jiu Jitsu, 3 years of Karate, and 2 years of Kickboxing. When she’s not throwing elbows, Sensei Jen runs some pretty mean Jiu Fitsu classes! Her favourite Martial Arts show is Marvel’s Daredevil.

Sensei Liam is a Second-Degree Black Belt in the Can-Ryu System of Japanese Jiu Jitsu. Sensei He’s trained for over 10 years in Japanese Jiu Jitsu, with a bit of wrestling thrown in for good measure! Sensei Liam loves Saturday dojo runs with his fellow Jiu Jitsu-ka! His favourite class? He can’t choose - they’re all great!

Sensei Ben has a great sense of humour, telling jokes and making puns during warm-up and stretching. But he's also fierce with his flying knees and loves demonstrating how he can throw his Dad (Sensei Brent)!

Sensei Sean is a Second-Degree Black Belt in the Can-Ryu system of Japanese Jiu Jitsu. He has 6 years of experience in Japanese Jiu Jitsu. He digs collar chokes using his knuckes, or opponents’ jackets. Favourite quote? “Never quit, you have to resist to the utmost. ‘Til you drop, like a Samurai” - Carlson Gracie Sr.

 

SENSEI SEAN
1st Degree Black Belt

Sensei Sean is a First-Degree Black Belt in the Can-Ryu system of Japanese Jiu Jitsu. Since his teenaged years in the early 90's, he’s been diversifying his martial arts journey with wrestling, kickboxing, Kyokushin karate and endless contact sports for power and durability purposes. In 1998, Sensei Sean began his grappling training with BJJ, setting the foundation for his ground fighting capabilities. He was certified as a Police "Use of Force" instructor in 2016, and has been engaged in Can-Ryu Japanese Jiu-jitsu training since 2017. He further supplements his martial arts with strength training and powerlifting.

Favorite martial arts movie? “It would have to be a toss-up between Kung-Fu Hustle or Kill Bill.” His favorite class is, of course, combat! Favorite move? The reverse body lock takedown.

SENSEI PATRICK
1st Degree Black Belt

Sensei Patrick is a First-Degree Black Belt in the Can-Ryu system of Japanese Jiu Jitsu. He has been training at Faulks Jiu Jitsu for almost 8 years, doing awesome flying front kicks, intimidating reaps and fierce anaconda chokes. He loves to talk with everyone at the dojo and tries to bring a smile to everyone he meets. If there is a dojo run on the weekends or a community event at the dojo, he will be there ready to have some good old jiu jitsu fun! He also doesn’t mind talking about nerdy things, Jiu Jitsu related or otherwise. His favorite martial arts is The Sidekick and his favorite classes are Combat Class and Jiu Fitsu.
